Orphan Image Cleaner

Find image files that appear to be unused before they quietly consume more and more storage.

What it does

Orphan Image Cleaner scans the WordPress media library for images that are no longer referenced by your site. It gives you a reviewable list before deletion so media cleanup does not have to be a blind bulk operation.

Checks common WordPress and WooCommerce image references before marking an image as orphaned

Checks page/post content and stored metadata for image references

How it works

Start a scan and the app works through image attachments in batches. An image is only treated as an orphan when the scan cannot find a normal attachment parent or references such as featured-image use, product-gallery use, content links or relevant metadata references. The resulting list can be reviewed before cleanup. When an image is deleted, the app checks its orphan status again before permanently removing it.

Why this app is useful

Over time, product changes, redesigned pages and deleted content can leave old uploads behind. WordPress does not provide an easy way to distinguish genuinely unused images from files that are still referenced elsewhere. Orphan Image Cleaner does the searching first and keeps a human review step in the workflow, making large media libraries easier to maintain.
